This competition is intended for established scholars and is a non-stipendiary visiting research post for up to a maximum of one year. The College proposes to elect a Visiting Fellow or Fellows for the academic year 2025-2026. In addition, a Robert S Campbell Visiting Fellow may be elected for research in law, especially Commercial Law, Competition or Antitrust Law, Internal Competition or Antitrust Law, Constitutional Law and Contract Law. A Visiting Fellowship is intended to offer an established scholar, either from abroad or from elsewhere in the United Kingdom, an opportunity to pursue his or her own study and research as a member of the College. Applications are particularly welcome from women and from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.

Applications, including a research proposal and CV, must be received by UK Time 12.00 noon on Friday 13 December 2024. Referees' references must be received by UK Time 12.00 noon on Thursday 16 January 2025. Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted. Competition Details

Eligibility Requirements

  • A Visiting Fellowship is intended to offer an established scholar, either from abroad or from elsewhere in the United Kingdom, an opportunity to pursue his or her own study and research as a member of the College. Applications are particularly welcome from women and from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
  • Candidates who completed their PhD or similar academic studies less than 7 years before 1 October of the academic year for which they are applying will not usually be considered for a Fellowship.
  • More junior academics who feel they have strong mitigating circumstances can complete the application form and the system will provide the facility to provide an explanation on the Academic Details page.
  • The College will generally give preference to individuals who would particularly benefit from the opportunity to spend time in Oxford to pursue their proposed research project, and would find it difficult to do so without the support of a Visiting Fellowship.
  • Individuals who have until recently held an academic position or Visiting Fellowship in Oxford, or who already have use of common room facilities at another Oxford college, are unlikely to be offered a Fellowship.

Further Details

  • A research proposal of maximum 2,000 words must be submitted as part of your application. It should outline the research you propose to undertake during the tenure of a Visiting Fellowship.
  • Candidates must provide details for two referees who have agreed to submit a reference through the website by 12.00 noon on Thursday 16 January 2025. The referees should be familiar with your recent research work and should submit their references directly through the online system.
  • The application must be submitted online by 12.00 noon on Friday 13 December 2024.
  • No interviews are held.
  • The Home Office requires that all visiting academics demonstrate that they have appropriate permission to carry out the activities that they are involved in. This may entail obtaining a Standard Visitor Visa. Please refer to the University Staff Immigration Team website for further information. The College has a legal obligation to examine and retain copies of certain original documents in this respect, irrespective of your national origin.

Fellowship Details

  • A Visiting Fellowship is intended to offer an established scholar, either from abroad or from elsewhere in the United Kingdom, an opportunity to pursue his or her own study and research as a member of the College. Applications are particularly welcome from women and from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
  • A Visiting Fellow will be a non-stipendiary Fellow of the College, but will be awarded certain privileges including rights to lunch and dinner free of cost. A Visiting Fellow will automatically become a member of the Senior Common Room.
  • A Visiting Fellow will be allocated a Mentor from the College Fellowship.
  • The President and Fellows may, subject to availability of suitable rooms, permit a Visiting Fellow unaccompanied by his or her family to reside in College free of rent. The College may have one small flat suitable for a Visiting Fellow plus his/her partner, subject to availability and intended for those whose partner will be here for the majority of the time. It is not possible to accommodate children or animals. Partners will not be awarded rights to lunch and dinner free of cost.

  • The application process begins on Monday 9 September 2024.

  • Two references must be submitted through the website by UK Time 12.00 noon on Thursday 16 January 2025.
  • Candidates will be short-listed by March 2025.
  • Elections to Fellowships will be made during March 2025.
